D. L. Callahan is the administrator of Bethel Christian Academy. She also teaches High School Bible, Middle/High School History and Geography (American/World), US Government, Middle/Jr. High Science, Jr./Sr. High Composition & Literature, and Drama. Mrs. Callahan attended Prairie View A & M University in Prairie View TX, where she majored in Political Science. Prior to becoming the administrator at BCA she worked as the Records Manager in the Financial Aid and Admissions departments at South Texas College of Law and at Eikenberg & Stiles, a mid-level law firm in Houston TX. She is active in North Baptist Church, Ottawa KS, serving on various church committees and boards. She enjoys beading, model railroading and working with her father on their family farm during her off- hours and through the summer. In 2008, she was selected as Wal-Mart’s Franklin County Teacher of the Year.
Mary McCreary is the Senior Teacher and specializes in Language Arts and Phonics for 3rd-12th grade students. She also teaches Middle School Bible and Senior Choir. Mrs. McCreary graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts and taught in the Salina school system (1969-1972). She left to become a full-time mother of three children and is now the proud grandmother of five. After moving to Baldwin City, KS, she held a substitute position with the school district for 10 years. She continues to operate a piano studio in her home for many area students as she has for the past 20 years. She is active in North Baptist Church, of Ottawa, KS, where she holds the position of music director. She loves to sing with local groups and spend time with her family.
Debra Green teaches Kindergarten through 2nd grade subjects, 3rd through 12th grade math, 3rd grade history/science/health, Elementary Bible and Music. After hours, Debra tutors BCA students as well as others from area schools in a variety of subjects. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Kansas with minors in Math and Social Studies and has completed the post Baccalaureate Degree Program at Emporia State University. She is active in her church, Lawrence Life Fellowship where she teaches Children's Church, works with Awanas, and disciples others within the church. She also loves to sing, play her flute and scrapbook.
Jewell Eastman teaches art to BCA and home school students on Fridays. She works hand crafts with the youngest students to develop their hand/eye skills. As students mature they begin to work on drawing principles. Starting with pencil drawings and progressing to a variety of media, including watercolor, pen and ink, colored pencil, pastel chalk, and crayon. Mrs. Eastman studied under internationally renowned artist Lee Hammond and brings her technique to our students. She is active in First Baptist Church of Garnett, and enjoys multiple handcrafts and playing hammered dulcimer in her spare time.
Brandy started teaching Physical Education and coaching sports for Bethel Christian Academy in September 2002. Bethel later combined with Ottawa Christian Academy and local homeschoolers to form a joint PE class and athletic team, the Ottawa Miracles. Throughout the year, the team competes in various sporting events such as softball, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and track within the Mid-States Christian League.
An Ottawa native, Brandy graduated from Ottawa University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and majored in Business Administration, Communications, & Management of Information Systems. She works full time at the Ottawa Recreation Commission, employed as the Recreation Supervisor in charge of Aquatics, Pre-K Programming, Special Events, and Senior Activities. Brandy is also actively involved with several community organizations and activities including Franklin County 4-H and various athletic leagues within the area.
